Have you ever heard anyone say something like, “I’m a good person, I try not to bother anyone, I make it my business to help others, and that should be enough to get me into heaven”.
As we were discussing someone saying something similar to me recently, my husband explained it this way; If he had to explain to someone who thought living a life of kindness or being helpful to everyone was enough to earn a spot in Heaven, he would explain it this way; “You can be better at what you do, be dependable, and work harder than the average person, but if you’re not on somebody’s payroll, you don’t get a paycheck, nor do you get benefits. In other words, you are working for free!
That’s the way God see’s it as well. You must believe that the cost of your sins were paid in full by Jesus Christ, by life if ministry and His suffering and death on the cross. Being good is not good enough, but living according to God’s word is! That’s what gets you eternal life in Paradise, in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and God the Father of all creation.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast”
